The Good Stuff:

Of the many micro-amps that I have played, this one IMHO was the warmest tone.  With its “Golden Ear” chip, Eden has managed to make this amp sound a lot like it has a tube preamp.  In fact, that’s what drew me to this amp while testing it at my favorite store.  When combined with the right cabinet, this mighty midget can give any small tube amp a run for its money, tone-wise.

Much like other micro-amps, the WTX-260 is incredibly portable.  At 8″ wide x 2.5″ high x 9″ deep, it truly does fit anywhere, including the main pocket of my gig bag.  And at 3.8 pounds, it weighs less than… well, just about any standard amplifier.  It is so small that I think it would be easy to lose at a gig if you’re not careful and have too many, umm, glasses of milk.  Yeah, milk, that’s exactly what I drink at gigs. :-D

The Bad Stuff:

Although warm and very portable, this amp is a wee bit underpowered.  A rating of 260 watts @ 4 ohms is great, but there are very few micro cabinets rated @ 4 ohms.  To me, it seems to defeat the purpose of a micro-amp to have to lug either a 4 ohm cabinet or two 8 ohm micro cabs.

At 8 ohms, the output is something more like 150-180 watts.  When paired with my Epifani UL112, this does not yield much output before the amp clips.  I really think that my 1971 Ampeg B-15N yields much more output, even though it is 30 watts, but the WTX-260 and a micro cab are much, much more portable.

Given the problems with the power, I am not surprised that Eden upped the power with the WTX-500.  The new version almost doubles the output.  Perhaps an upgrade is in my future…

Overall:

The WTX-260 is great sounding and very portable micro-amp with warm, rich tone.  My only complaint is the power, but this likely has been resolved in the new WTX-500.
